The 21-year-old centre-back has emerged as Newcastle’s top defensive target as they look to reinforce their squad next month.

The Dutchman has been watched by Newcastle extensively but they are facing serious competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, such as AC Milan.

Newcastle initially thought that the defender could be out of their reach due to the interest from several big clubs.

But it has been claimed that the Magpies have received encouragement from the Dutchman over a potential move.

Botman is said to be enthused at the proposals he has received from the Premier League side.

The defender is excited at the plans he has heard from Newcastle and the vision they have for him and the club’s growth.

With Botman being positive about the club, Newcastle will continue to try and sign him in the winter transfer window.

Lille are expected to let the player leave in January if they receive a fee in the region of £30m next month.
