Gosens has been on Newcastle’s radar this month and talks did take place between his representatives and the north east club.
Eddie Howe has been keen to bring in a left wing-back and the German was identified as the top target, with Atalanta waiting for a bid from the Magpies.
Newcastle even offered him a lucrative contract but it seems the 27-year-old never warmed up to the idea of joining the Magpies.
And according to Sky Deutschland, Newcastle are no longer in the race to secure a deal to sign Gosens from Atalanta.
The Magpies have been edged out of the chase by Serie A giants Inter who are closing in on an agreement.
A deal is likely to be agreed between Inter and Atalanta for a deal worth €25m for the German to move to the San Siro.
The Nerazzurri have already agreed on personal terms on a contract with Inter and Gosens willing to join the reigning Italian champions and Serie A leaders.
And it seems Gosens’ name is set to be added to the list of players Newcastle wanted this month but failed to get.
