Lions boss Steven Gerrard has already bolstered his squad with two new signings this month and is now eyeing bringing in a defensive midfielder.
Gerrard has zeroed in on Juventus man Bentancur as his top target and Aston Villa have opened talks with the Italians over a possible move for the midfielder.
Juventus are open to selling Bentancur for fee in the €25m range, but want a replacement through the door and have not reached an agreement with Aston Villa.
However, the Lions have an alternative in their sights if they fail to snap up the Uruguayan, in the shape of Rangers midfielder Kamara.
The Finland international was a key player under Gerrard during his stint at Ibrox and the ex-Gers boss is well aware of the qualities he can add to his team.
Kamara signed a new long-term deal at Rangers last year and has continued to be a fixture in the Gers squad under Gerrard’s successor Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa make concrete moves to snare away Kamara before Monday’s transfer deadline if they fail with their efforts to land Bentancur.
