Newcastle are working on deals to sign Dan Burn and Matty Targett today and are trying to revive the negotiations with Manchester United for Jesse Lingard’s loan deal.

But the Magpies have continued to track the possibility of bringing in some of their original top targets this month.

Botman was the priority target for Newcastle at the start of the month but Lille made it crystal clear that they do not want to sell the centre-back in the ongoing transfer window.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, they pushed for signing again on deadline day by tabling a big-money offer today.

Newcastle slapped in a bid worth €40m to test Lille’s resolve to keep the 22-year-old centre-back.

But the French club wasted little time in rejecting the bid and insisted that he is still not for sale.

Botman is also believed to be keener on a move to AC Milan who are expected to make a move to sign him in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle decide to offer more money in the coming hours to test Lille’s determination to hold on to him.
