Gil arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer on a big money move from Spanish giants Sevilla, linking up with then Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, the winger struggled for regular first team minutes at Spurs and Nuno’s successor Conte decided to allow him to leave on loan, with the player securing a deadline day move to Valencia on a six-month deal.
Conte stressed that the 20-year-old is bright talent with a lot of quality but insists at the stage of his development, the Premier League is tough for him.
The Italian added that he has the vision to put structures in place and build a team that will serve the club on a long-term basis, even if he leaves and they need to be pragmatic with their player recruitment.
Asked about Gil, Conte told a press conference: “I like to tell the truth.
“We are talking about a really good player; he has good quality.
“He understands football quickly and in this moment for sure this league is very tough.
“If you compare this league with another league, you play another sport here.
“When you sign a player, you have to consider many aspects because this league is very difficult
“You can be good and creative but you at the same time you need to be strong and physical.
“I have my vision and I am here to help the club.
“In the past I have built good structure and teams that have lasted time, even without me.
“We need to build structure.
“We need to make sure we don’t repeat mistakes in the future, we have to reduce the mistakes.”
Gil will be determined to raise his level while on loan back in Spain in the second half of the season and possibly earn a place in Conte’s plans ahead of next term.
