Ronaldo is currently on his most barren run in front of goal since he left Manchester United initially at the end of the 2008/09 season.

The Portuguese has attracted criticism for his performances and many believe Manchester United need to invest in a younger forward in the next summer transfer window.

Pogba’s time at Manchester United has also been chequered because of his lack of consistency and he recently returned to the team following a lengthy injury layoff.

However, former RB Leipzig coach March remains a huge admirer of both players and he stressed that there is a reason both are considered elite stars.

He feels the duo add personality, edge and sense of swagger to the Manchester United squad.

The American wrote on The Athletic: “There has been a lot of talk about Cristiano Ronaldo’s ability to play this way or his role in the side.

“Manchester United have a good squad, but you can see that when Ronaldo and Paul Pogba are on the pitch, they’re different.

“There is a little more swagger, more personality, a harder edge.

“People are quick to point out their weaknesses.

“But these two players have been successful in their careers and that isn’t by chance.

“It’s their mentality as well as their quality.

“I’m excited to see Pogba back after injury and what Rangnick can accomplish with him.”

Manchester United have won just two of their last league games and will be banking on the likes of Ronaldo and Pogba to get them going again soon.
