Conte’s Tottenham side are on a poor run and have lost their last three Premier League games, which has dented their top-four hopes.

The Spurs boss has been open about the lack of quality in his squad and insisted that his team are weaker than they were before the start of the January transfer window.

The Italian also indicated the difference between experienced players compared to Spurs’ vision of signing young players who are still not ready to reach the top.

Murphy insisted that Conte’s words are not helping the players, who will want a bit more positivity from their manager.

The former Spurs midfielder does not know what the Italian is saying behind closed doors but stressed he is creating a negative atmosphere around the club and the squad.

He said on talkSPORT: “Irrelevant of what the supporters think, the players as a group want a bit more of the opposite.

“I don’t think it is beneficial to the players.

“I don’t know what he is saying to them behind closed doors, whether there is a complete contradiction to the message, unlikely.

“The fact is that the way he is coming across is creating headlines and negativity around the club.”

Tottenham are desperate to get back to winning ways but a trip to Manchester City awaits them this weekend.
