Ten Hag has emerged as the top contender to become the next Manchester United manager and impressed the board in his first interview.

Manchester United will conduct another round of interviews and Mauricio Pochettino is still in the race, but the Dutchman is now the clear favourite to take the reins at the Red Devils in the summer.

Ajax allowed Ten Hag to speak to Manchester United and will not stand in his way if the club pick him as their new manager.

There were suggestions that he has a €5m release clause in his Ajax contract, but according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the figure is less than half of what was previously thought.

Manchester United would only have to pay around €2m to Ajax to take him to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The figure is unlikely to be a problem for Manchester United if they decide to take the 52-year-old from Ajax.

Ten Hag is currently focused on Ajax’s season and their bid to retain the Dutch Eredivisie title this season.
