Tottenham are currently fighting for a top four finish in the league as they look to secure Champions League football for next season.

But Spurs boss Conte has ambitions to transform the club into a side that compete for trophies regularly and insists that they need to invest a lot of money in player recruitment.

However, former Tottenham star Vega is pessimistic about the north London giants going on a spending spree and has insisted that they will not splash a lot of cash in the forthcoming window.

Vega stressed that what Conte is saying about the club needing to invest in player recruitment is nothing new as the Tottenham hierarchy have been faced with similar scenarios in the past, in which they failed to step up.

Reacting to Conte’s claims that Spurs need to spend a lot in the transfer market to reduce the gap to the top sides, Vega wrote on Twitter: “Nothing new.

“And it will not happen the spending.”

Conte is set to hold talks with the Spurs hierarchy following this season to decide whether he will continue his post and summer transfers are tipped to be one of the major topics on agenda in the discussions.
