Manchester United are yet to confirm the deal, but Malacia underwent his medical and signed a contract with the club on Monday.

The Dutchman has more or less made it clear that he is a Manchester United player now and admitted that he has been following the club since his childhood hero Robin van Persie played for them.

He also claimed that taking a trip to Manchester United with Feyenoord’s youth team a few years ago also left an impression on him.

Malacia told Dutch daily De Telegraaf: “I always followed Manchester United because Robin van Persie played there as a Feyenoord player.

“That’s why I got that extra feeling.

“In the youth team of Feyenoord we played a tournament at United and I said then that I will come back here one day.

“That has now come true and that is of course wonderful.”

The Dutchman also insisted that he received positive vibes from Ten Hag and that was important given he is going to be working under him for a number of years if things go well for him at Old Trafford.

Malacia also stressed the value of Ten Hag’s coaching and he wants to get better under the new Manchester United manager.

“Mr Ten Hag is a good coach and also a very warm person, so I had a good conversation with him and I have a very good feeling about him.

“That’s important because if all goes well, we will work together for many years.

“I am looking forward to that because I think I can learn a lot from him, he makes players who are prepared to work hard better.”

The defender will first look to impress Ten Hag over the course of pre-season.
