The Liverpool boss has been consistently linked with the Germany job over the last few years as the national team’s stock has plummeted in the last few international tournaments.

Germany’s exit from the group stage of the recently concluded World Cup again gave rise to the spectre of Klopp becoming the next coach of the national team.

The 55-year-old has regularly dismissed the links and he recently signed a new contract to further extend his stay at Anfield.

However, he admitted that he does not want to give the impression that becoming the Germany boss would be the last job he would like to do at the end of his career.

Klopp indicated that there is prestige in being Germany’s coach but stressed that he cannot just walk away from all his responsibilities at Anfield just because there could be something on offer.

Asked about becoming the Germany job, he told German magazine Sport Bild: “It’s a strange situation, which is nice on one hand and very difficult on the other.

“I don’t want to give the impression that this is the last job I wanted to do.

“There are a lot worse things than being named as a possible national team coach.

“In any case, it is better than saying that everyone can do it but definitely not him.

“But I am an extremely responsible person and I have a responsibility to Liverpool and I can’t just say because I feel like that I have to leave.

“I can’t do that.”

Klopp is facing the challenge of getting Liverpool into the top four this season after a difficult first half of their Premier League campaign.
