Gelhardt has struggled to make a place for himself in the Leeds team, often only being used for second-half cameos.

He has played in 15 Premier League matches this term, but has only one start and often is brought on from the bench for fewer than 10 minutes of playing time.

As such, Gelhardt has been linked with a loan move to the Championship and Wigan are interested in getting the starlet through the door.

However, the wages Leeds would want for a loan deal involving Gelhardt are currently out of Wigan’s reach.

Gelhardt is a former Wigan star but with Leeds’ wage demands getting in the way, the chances of him going back to the DW Stadium are reduced.

Wigan are currently bottom of the Championship but it seems they would need to put strain on their purse for the chance of signing him.

With Georginio Rutter coming to Leeds this window, the competition has only increased for Gelhardt and a loan move maybe an option to ensure game time.
