The Trotters are looking to push for promotion again next season after they lost to Barnsley in the League One playoff semi-finals.

They are already showing their ambition for the upcoming season as they have already made three permanent signings.

Ian Evatt is prioritising strengthening a midfield that can fight through the thick fixture list of the English third tier and Flick’s name emerged as a potential candidate.

However, talk that Bolton are moving to sign the 23-year-old is wide of the mark.

The Schalke midfielder was a regular fixture for the club during their 2. Bundesliga season, however following promotion to the Bundesliga his chances became limited.

Flick played eight times for Die Knappen during the first half of the season, before he was sent on a loan for the rest of the campaign to second division Nurnberg, where he played 16 times.

It remains to be seen if Bolton will again look at Flick as an option later this summer.
