Last season, Rangers finished trophyless and Beale is determined to end their Glasgow rivals’ dominance.

Rangers have been very active in the transfer market and they have so far signed nine players in the ongoing transfer window.

Rangers’ performances in pre-season friendlies have drawn some criticism, but Sutton stressed that pre-season games do not always show the full picture.

The ex-Celtic star admitted that Beale has plenty of problems to address in his Rangers side and thinks that after being heavily backed in the transfer market, the Gers boss will be under pressure to deliver.

Sutton also pointed out that Rangers are going through a squad overhaul and stressed that it is evident that the new players will take time to settle in.

“I’m always wary about reading too much into pre-season campaigns”, Sutton wrote in his Daily Record column.

“You don’t always get the full picture and these matches don’t matter a jot once the real thing is up and running, yet there is no doubt there are still a lot more questions around this Rangers squad Michael Beale has assembled over the summer.

“He will admit it himself, the pressure is on after being backed heavily in the transfer market.

“It was always going to take time though.

“When you bring in so many new players, there is going to be a period of adjustment, a settling down spell where things don’t happen overnight.”

Rangers have won only one out of their three pre-season games and they are set to face Hoffenheim today in a friendly.
