Furuhashi has again led the line for Celtic well this season and has scored seven times in 13 appearances in all competitions.

He scored in Celtic’s 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night but was taken off in the second half with Daizen Maeda taking his place up top.

Bonner is not sure why Brendan Rodgers decided against throwing in Hyeon-gyu Oh but feels it shows a lack of options in the striker department.

The Celtic legend stressed that the club need to bring in a forward in the next transfer window as at the moment Rodgers does not have many options to turn to if something happens to Furuhashi.

The former Bhoy said on BBC Radio Scotland: “They need to get another striker of some description.

“Oh would be a bit disappointed that he didn’t come onto the pitch, especially when he took Kyogo off and they made that change of playing Maeda through the middle.

“Does Brendan not think he is up to it or did he want to try something different? All managers will make decisions.

“But I think if something happens to Kyogo, they are definitely short in that position.”

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers gets money to spend in January if Celtic are not involved in Europe in the latter half of the season.
