Rangers legend Barry Ferguson thinks that extra rest before the game against Celtic could prove to be a double-edged sword for the Gers.

Celtic took on Motherwell on Boxing Day, but Rangers’ game against Ross County was postponed.

Due to the postponement, Rangers will get extra recovery time from their weekend’s fixture before going into the game against their city rivals Celtic.

Ferguson admitted that Rangers will go into the game fresher than Celtic but believes that the extra period of rest might prove to be a double-edged sword for the Gers.

He pointed out that in the form Rangers are currently in, the players would have preferred to play the game to continue their momentum going into the big fixture at the weekend.

“They’ll also go into it fresher than they would have been if the Ross County game had been played on Wednesday”, Ferguson wrote in his Daily Record column

“But that’s a double-edged sword.

“Yes, the likes of Connor Goldson, who came off against Motherwell late on, will have had more recovery time, but from a player’s perspective, I always wanted to play when the team is going well.

“So, I’d rather have played the Ross County game and kept the momentum going, because that’s certainly what Rangers have got at the moment.

“When you’re winning games, you want to play as many as you can.”

Rangers will be determined to close the gap to two points with Celtic by winning at Parkhead at the weekend.
