Aidy White has expressed his delight at seeing Patrick Bamford silencing the naysayers in Leeds United’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City on Monday.

Bamford started his first league game of the season when he was named in the starting eleven at Elland Road on New Year’s Day.

He also got his first goal of the season in Leeds’ 3-0 win over the Blues and was only taken off after 75 minutes.

With Joel Piroe struggling for form, Bamford staked his claim for a regular starting spot with his performance against Birmingham on Monday.

White stressed that the forward showed his worth despite being criticised by Leeds fans this season, some of whom feel he should not be at the club anymore.

The former Leeds star stressed that Bamford did everything that is expected from a striker and should now be in line to get more starts going forward.

White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “He has come out fighting and has proven his worth.

“The fans have questioned that should he be still at the club, and whether is it time for him to move on but he showed what he is about.

“He got his goal, he worked hard for the team and his creativity, link up and hold up was good.

“So, I think he has done himself no end of favours.”

It remains to be seen whether Bamford gets another start when Leeds take on Peterborough United in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
