Former Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael van der Vaart has expressed his excitement at playing at Liverpool’s Anfield ground again and insists he will lose weight for it.

The Dutch legend has been invited to Anfield for a charity match between the Ajax legends and Liverpool legends on 23rd March.

Having played at Liverpool’s home ground during his playing days for Tottenham, Van der Vaart is looking forward to it.

Though Van der Vaart has lost his shape following his retirement in 2018, he has vowed to regain his fitness and lose weight as he cannot wait to turn out at Anfield once again.

Van der Vaart scored for Tottenham in a 2-0 win at Liverpool in the Premier League in 2011.

“Wow. Playing there again on the sacred turf of Liverpool is a real highlight for me”, Van der Vaart was quoted as saying by German daily Bild.

“I’m going to get really fit for this game and lose around 15 kgs.”

Van der Vaart insists that he knows what he needs to get back into shape and will do everything possible.

“I know what is good for my body and what is not.

“I will also do a lot of exercise and only eat healthy things.”

Since retiring from football the 40-year-old has worked both as an assistant as well as an interim manager for Danish club Esbjerg.

The announcement of the charity match in March was made in early November.
