Ex-Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk does not believe former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will make a difference if he joins Ajax in January.

Henderson is in the process of getting his contract terminated at Al-Ettifaq and Ajax are amongst the clubs who are in talks with the midfielder’s representatives.

The Dutch giants are pushing to sign the player this month and a deal in principle is in place between Henderson’s representatives and Ajax.

However, experienced Dutch coach Van Marwijk is unsure why Ajax are keen to sign the defensive midfielder in the middle of the season.

He stressed that he often saw Henderson play for Liverpool and does not see how a player who cannot score goals or be a particularly great organiser would come in and make a difference at Ajax.

Van Marwijk told Dutch daily De Telegraaf: “I have often seen Henderson play for England and Liverpool.

“I do not think he is a player who makes a difference in terms of scoring or setting up the organisation at Ajax.

“One who puts all the players at Ajax in the right position in the middle of the season.”

Juventus were believed to be ready to offer him an 18-month contract but it seems Henderson is on his way to Ajax.
