Southampton manager Russell Martin has claimed that there have been no conversations about Kyle Walker-Peters leaving this month despite rumoured interest from Chelsea.

The 26-year-old right-back has played in all of Southampton’s 27 Championship games this season and has been an integral part of the team.

His performances in the Championship have led to interest from the Premier League in the ongoing winter transfer window.

Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on taking the former Tottenham defender to Stamford Bridge this month, but Martin poured cold water over any departure talk around Walker-Peters.

He claimed that he has already spoken with the player and there is little substance to rumours of him leaving Southampton in the ongoing window.

The Saints boss also stressed that it would take a lot of money to convince Southampton to sell a player of his importance in the middle of a season where they are chasing promotion.

Martin said in a press conference: “I spoke to Kyle and I know his agent really well.

“There’s been no conversation about him wanting to leave.

“He’s in such a good place.

“I don’t have a concern about that.

“It would take a lot of money to sign him.”

Walker-Peter has 18 months left on his contract and for now, Southampton are under no pressure to sell him.
