Aston Villa are set to face disappointment in their pursuit of Elfsborg goalkeeper Hakon Rafn Valdimarsson who is set to join Brentford, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Villans are in the market for a new goalkeeper after they loaned out Filip Marschall to MK Dons earlier in the window.

Aston Villa have been scouring the market for a goalkeeper as they seek to reinforce the options in their squad.

Valdimarsson did emerge as a target for the Midlands club and they even tabled a bid worth £1.7m with Elfsborg.

Brentford are the ones who are now close to signing the 22-year-old goalkeeper from the Swedish side in the ongoing transfer window.

The London club have a deal in place with Elfsborg to take the goalkeeper to the GTech Community Stadium in the coming days.

Valdimarsson is a full Iceland international and has earned six caps for his senior national side.

Aston Villa were not the only Premier League side chasing him but Brentford are set to secure his signature before next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
