Sunderland are still far from certain of getting a deal done to sign Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 23-year-old midfielder is a big target for Sunderland ahead of next Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Black Cats have been in talks with Barnsley over taking Styles to the Stadium of Light over the last week but no deal is still in place.

There are concerns that the negotiations are dragging on for too long between the two clubs for the midfielder’s transfer.

It has been claimed that Sunderland are still not certain that they will be able to sign the player in the coming days.

The midfielder is keen on the move and was left out of Barnsley’s squad for their league game last weekend.

However, the League One club are not prepared to lose him unless their valuation of the player is matched.

Michael Beale is keen to have Styles in his Sunderland squad soon but for the moment the two clubs are far away from reaching an agreement.
