Mark Wilson has insisted that there is an overreaction of the Celtic fans and it is down to the fact that they are not used to seeing their side in a tough title race for far too long.

Celtic’s 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Saturday coupled with Rangers’ win over Livingston means the Bhoys now just have a three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings having played a game more than their Glasgow rivals.

Rangers have turned their season around since Philippe Clement took charge of the side in October while Celtic have had their momentum halted in the last few months.

Celtic fans are now wary of seeing their side losing their grip on the title race this season and some now believe Rangers are the favourites to win the Scottish Premiership.

Wilson conceded that he understands the fear of the Celtic fans given how their side are playing and the spectre of an in-form Rangers team chasing them down.

However, he insisted that Bhoys fans are overreacting because they have not been in a proper title race for years and are flinching at the sight of a good Rangers side pushing them this season.

The former Celtic star said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I get the fear of some Celtic fans because you can see the malaise setting in.

“You can see the injuries coming at the wrong time, just after the window shuts where the club haven’t really invested the way the fans would have wanted.

“And you match that with what’s going on at Rangers, the performances they are putting on and their progression in Europe.

“You can see it but to concede the title is going too far.

“There is a long way to go in the title race and that’s what it is now.

“Celtic fans are used to having their own way for far too long over the past decade and the slightest sign of Rangers, there is a fear about them.”

Celtic have a trip to Easter Road on Wednesday night when they will take on an out-of-form Hibernian side.
