Barcelona baulked at the fees demanded by Lucas Bergvall’s agents before the teenage midfielder agreed to move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham pulled off a coup last week when they beat Barcelona to the signature of the highly-rated Swedish midfielder.

Bergvall will join Tottenham in the summer and has been promised first-team involvement from the start of his time in north London.

It seemed that Barcelona were close to signing him last week and he even visited the club before then stunning the Catalans by agreeing to move to north London.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona was blindsided by the high fees his agents demanded when his signing seemed close to completion.

The Catalan giants refused to pay over the odds to the midfielder’s agents and were confident that Bergvall wanted to join them.

They had received assurances from the player and his camp over a move until they decided against moving to Catalunya.

Barcelona were also only prepared to offer him a spot in the B team at the start while Tottenham promised him first-team involvement.
