Mark Wilson has insisted that Celtic fans are overreacting to the side’s recent performances and stressed that he does not think there is a crisis.

Celtic are sitting three points above Rangers in the league table having played a game more than their Glasgow rivals.

They needed an injury-time penalty to beat an out-of-form Hibernian side at Easter Road on Wednesday night.

Celtic fans are concerned about the level of some of their side’s recent performances and are wary of seeing a resurgent Rangers piping them to the title this season.

However, Wilson insisted that Celtic fans are overreacting partly because a section of the supporters are still to forgive Brendan Rodgers for leaving the club a few years ago.

He conceded that performances have not been good and several players have gone off the boil.

However, the former Bhoy stressed despite all the issues, Celtic are sitting at the summit of the Scottish Premiership standings.

Wilson said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I can’t help but think there is an overreaction over this stuff.

“I get there is a disconnect between Rodgers coming in and a certain section of Celtic fans.

“The performances haven’t been sparkling this year, but they are still successful and there are periods that Celtic have been good.

“The period just before Christmas they were back to their best; maybe not hit those heights again.

“Some players are off colour and off form, no doubt about.

“It’s not as if there are seven or eight on form and one or two or three out of form, there seems to be bunches of these and that’s a problem.

“However, what I would pair it up with is that you have got that problem and you are still sitting top of the league, played 25 and won 19 of those.

“I don’t think it is as bad as some Celtic fans are phoning it in and saying it’s a crisis.”

Celtic will look for Scottish Cup progress when they take on St. Mirren on Sunday.
