Former Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson believes that Celtic are more pedestrian to watch under Brendan Rodgers and they were more energetic and relentless under Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers and his Celtic side have come in for criticism this season with Rangers now snapping at their heels in the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Bhoys also bowed out of Europe before Christmas and watched Rangers win the Scottish League Cup as well.

There are gripes about the kind of football they are playing under Rodgers as well, which is in contrast to the team Postecoglou built before he moved to Tottenham last year.

Ferguson stressed that Celtic were horrible to play against under the Australian because their energy was relentless while the Bhoys look like a more pedestrian and tepid side under the current manager.

The former Scotland midfielder said on the Go Radio Football Show: “It’s a different style and it’s a different manager.

“Postecoglou had a gung-ho approach, really pressing high up the pitch with real energy and it was an energetic team.

“They were horrible to play against because they were non-stop.

“And they did tire towards the end of some games, but it’s totally different.

“Watching Celtic now, they are more pedestrian, more passing, slower tempo and sometimes it plays into the hands of the opposition.”

Celtic remain top of the Scottish Premiership table and have the fate of the title in their own hands, despite Rangers’ recent good form.
