Former Scotland international Barry Ferguson has insisted that Celtic fans must remain careful about their criticism of Joe Hart as it is hard to find a top goalkeeper.
Hart is one of the Celtic players who has come in some criticism from a large section of the supporters this season.
He is the undisputed number one at Celtic but many believe the 36-year-old is past his best and the club should look to bring in a replacement.
However, Ferguson stressed that Celtic fans must remain careful as it is not always easy to find a top goalkeeper, especially for free as Hart was.
The former Scotland midfielder insisted that the former England goalkeeper still has several years left in him and has shown in recent weeks that he remains a top performer.
Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Be careful what you wish for.
“I think Joe Hart is still a quality goalkeeper.
“I know he has come in for some criticism from Celtic fans, but if you are going to change your goalkeeper, you very rarely get a top goalkeeper on a free.
“I think Joe Hart has still got a fair bit of football left in him and he has shown that over the last few weeks.”
Hart’s current deal expires at the end of the season and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the former Manchester City man.
