Former Celtic star Andy Walker has stressed that he does not understand Brendan Rodgers’ comments on the criticism aimed at the Bhoys of late.

Rodgers came out fighting after Celtic’s win over St. Mirren in the Scottish Cup on Sunday and he indicated that there has been an unwarranted amount of criticism towards him and his team.

The Celtic boss stressed that critics are trying to take him and his team down, but Walker is not sure who the Northern Irishman was referring to as he feels the criticism is coming from Bhoys fans themselves.

He stressed that Celtic supporters are concerned to see the team limping to victories in recent games and Rodgers needs to take responsibility for some of the insipid performances.

The former Bhoy insisted that the Celtic boss might attempt to deflect from the winter window, but he was the one who was demanding more quality last month.

The former Celtic star said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I don’t know who he is talking about.

“Any Celtic fans I speak to are concerned about the team.

“I am sure Brendan Rodgers will take some of the blame for the fact that the football on offer has not been great.

“You are struggling to get past Ross County, Hibs and a draw at Aberdeen in recent weeks.

“They are concerned about the team and they wanted the club to invest a bit of money in the January window but it didn’t happen.

“I think Celtic can still win the league but it’s a gamble they didn’t need to take and remember it was Brendan Rodgers himself who was saying quality, quality, quality and then the narrative changed.

“I don’t know who he is referring to when he says, ‘bring the team down’ or ‘bring me down’.”

Celtic will next be in league action on Saturday when they host Kilmarnock at Parkhead.
