Bayer Leverkusen are growing increasingly confident that Liverpool-linked Xabi Alonso will stay at the club next season as the Spaniard is already deep in planning for the 2024/25 campaign.

Leverkusen took a giant stride towards winning the Bundesliga when they beat Bayern Munich at the weekend.

They have a five-point lead at the top of the table but the club are also wary of losing their coach Alonso at the end of the season.

He is claimed to be Liverpool’s top target to replace Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave at the end of the ongoing campaign, at Anfield in the summer.

However, according to German magazine Sport Bild (via Fussball Transfers), there is growing confidence inside Leverkusen that their young coach will stay at the club.

Their confidence is coming from the fact that Alonso is already deeply involved in planning for next season.

The Leverkusen coach and sporting director Simon Rolfes are looking ahead and are planning the squad for the 2024/25 campaign.

The German club are now confident that Alonso will ignore overtures from Liverpool to stay at Leverkusen for one more season.
