Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has taken aim at Alexandro Bernabei for a lack of desire to prevent Kilmarnock equalising at Celtic Park.

Celtic dropped vital points in the title race when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon.

Kilmarnock levelled in stoppage time as a cross was converted, but it was Bernabei who Killie star David Watson escaped the attentions of to score.

Wilson thinks that Celtic’s players are now being tested for their character and is of the view that Bernabei came up short, showing a lack of desire at a crucial moment.

He believes such performances throughout the season are the reason that Celtic have a title race on their hands and are not well clear.

“When it gets to this period and you play for Celtic, you are analysed on [not just] your ability but your character as well to stand up to moments like they had today, when they are 1-0 up to see out the game”, Wilson said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard.

“Bernabei clearly showed a lack of desire at the back post.

“He’ll claim that he was pushed, but we can all see that he wasn’t.

“That is the problem. Too many of those performances from players throughout the season leads to where Celtic are at the moment.”

Bernabei has regularly come in for criticism in recent months and many expected Celtic to sign another left-back in the January transfer window.
