Former Scotland midfielder Michael Stewart has questioned where the intensity has gone in Celtic’s game under Brendan Rodgers amid the Bhoys’ struggles.

From looking like they would stroll to the Scottish Premiership title this season, Celtic are now facing the prospect of Rangers replacing them at the top of the table if they beat St Johnstone today.

Celtic conceded a late leveller against Kilmarnock at home on Saturday to drop two points their form means they could ill afford to drop as it ended 1-1.

Ex-Scotland man Stewart is struck by the difference between the current Celtic side and the Celtic side during Rodgers’ first spell.

He feels there is a lack of intensity, in part driven by players who are not capable of that intensity.

“It takes a long time to build that invincibility. It can disappear very quickly and that’s what’s happened here”, Stewart said on BBC Radio Scotland.

“Brendan Rodgers will be scratching his head wondering what else he can do.

“The thing that struck me with Celtic under Brendan Rodgers the first time round was the intensity.

“They never let up, but if you watch them now, they don’t have intense players.”

Celtic will be hoping Rangers fail to take advantage of their slip-up, but under Philippe Clement the Gers are in superb form at present.
