Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann has lavished praise on Tottenham Hotspur loan star Matthew Craig for his recent performances, which culminated in him scoring against Grimsby Town at the weekend.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder joined the League Two side from Spurs on loan for the season in the winter transfer window.

Tottenham wanted Craig to get a taste of regular senior football and the young midfielder has impressed so far at Doncaster.

He has started five of their last six league games and McCann has been impressed with his performances in recent fixtures.

The Doncaster boss is pleased to see Craig come through three different kinds of games in the last week or so and was happy to see him get his rewards with a goal at the weekend.

McCann was quoted as saying by football London: “I’m really pleased for him.

“He’s had three different types of games in a week.

“He’s been very good and composed and the goal is probably just rewards for his performances.

“It was a really calm finish into the corner.”

Craig will still have two years left on his Spurs contract when he returns to the club in the summer.
