Lucas Bergvall has insisted that he is not paying much heed to words coming from Barcelona’s camp about his decision to snub them in favour of Tottenham Hotspur.

Barcelona were confident that they were in pole position to sign the Swedish teen sensation and even hosted the player and his entourage in the Catalan city.

However, days later the 18-year-old midfielder decided to sign for Tottenham and he will be officially joining the north London club in the summer.

Spurs believe they have pulled off a major coup by convincing Bergvall to join them but it was a bitter pill to swallow for Barcelona, who put much work into attracting him.

People associated with Barcelona believe that Bergvall was influenced by his mother and his girlfriend when he decided to join Spurs, but the player is not prepared to waste much energy on such accusations.

He feels that Barcelona’s reaction is coming out of the bitterness of getting rejected by him.

Bergvall told Swedish daily Aftonbladet: “It’s not something I want to spend a lot of time on.

“They can write and say what they want.

“I know what is right and I try not to put my energy into it.”

Asked if Barcelona are bitter, he said: “That could be, absolutely. I don’t know.”

Bergvall will link up with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad at Tottenham in the summer.
