Former Bundesliga striker Jan Aage Fjortoft has tipped Liverpool to face disappointment in their pursuit of Xabi Alonso.
Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side have forced people to stand up and take notice as they continue their march towards the Bundesliga title this season.
The Spaniard is now the most-wanted coach in European football with Liverpool said to be pushing to take him to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at the end of the season.
Bayern Munich also want Alonso as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement as they seek to bring in a new manager at the end of the ongoing campaign.
However, Fjortoft is tipping Leverkusen to keep the Spaniard at the club beyond the end of the season.
Asked who is the favourite to get Alonso, he took to X and wrote: “Leverkusen!!!!
“Still the favourite.”
The German club are growing increasingly confident that Alonso will choose to stick around next season.
There are claims that the Spaniard is deep in discussions with the club over plans for the 2024/25 campaign.
