Former Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta has been affected by Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri’s failure so far at Sevilla.

Mejbri joined Sevilla on loan from Manchester United in the winter transfer window with the Spanish club securing a €20m purchase option as well.

Orta, who joined Sevilla after leaving Leeds, played a leading role in convincing the midfielder to join Sevilla despite the club’s struggles in La Liga this season.

However, Mejbri has played a grand total of 37 minutes in three substitute appearances for Sevilla so far.

According to Seville-based daily Estadio Deportivo, Mejbri’s struggles at Sevilla have had an impact on Orta, who championed his arrival.

The Sevilla coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, seems to be on a different page on Mejbri compared to the sporting director.

He is not sold on the Manchester United academy product and has been reluctant to use him.

The Spaniard has been left an unused substitute in three of the six games he has been available to play in La Liga so far.

It is almost certain that Sevilla are unlikely to trigger the option to buy him at the end of the season.

Orta came in for heavy criticism due to his recruitment at Leeds, with the club eventually being relegated from the Premier League.

He is looking to rebuild his reputation back in his homeland and will desperately hope Mejbri comes good.
