Manchester United are in talks with former defender Jaap Stam as they push to bring him back to the club in a new role in the technical team, it has been claimed in Italy.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is continuing to reshape the backroom structure at Manchester United as he pushes to bring in a new era at Old Trafford.

Jason Wilcox has been brought in as the new technical director and Omar Berrada will assume his position of CEO in July.

Dan Ashworth is also expected to complete his protracted move from Newcastle United to become their new sporting director.

However, Ratcliffe wants to add more staff to the technical team and according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the club are now in talks to bring back Stam to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman won three Premier Leagues, the FA Cup and the Champions League during his three-year stay at the heart of their defence.

Stam also has had coaching experience in England with Reading but Manchester United want him in a new role.

If he agrees to return to Old Trafford, the former defender would be a conduit between the first team squad and the technical team.

Manchester United are hoping to get a deal done in time for Stam to join the set-up this summer.
