Luton Town’s bid to bring in a defender ‘is on the rocks’ and the player appears likely to end up staying put at his current club.

The Hatters have been working to strengthen their squad ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window.

Adding to defence has been key and they recently splashed the cash to land Mark McGuinness from Cardiff City.

The club have also been working on the capture of centre-back Nathan Ngoy from Belgian side Standard Liege.

A fee was agreed and Ngoy headed to England for a medical at the weekend, with the deal looking on course to happen.

It could now have fallen apart though as, according to Belgian daily HLN, the deal ‘is on the rocks’ and Ngoy looks set to stay at Standard Liege.

Why the move is heading towards collapsing is unclear.

Luton still have time to turn to alternative targets if the swoop for Ngoy is definitively off the table.
