Liverpool legend David James has hailed one of the Reds stars for the way he ‘skinned’ a Wolves player to provide an assist at Molineux on Saturday.
Arne Slot’s men made sure they ended the weekend sitting at the top of the Premier League table by beating Wolves 2-1, taking full advantage of Manchester City dropping points.
Goals from Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah did the business for Liverpool, who had been pegged back to 1-1 when Rayan Ait-Nouri struck.
Konate’s goal came from a header provided by a superb cross from Diogo Jota and James was impressed by the Portuguese’s work on the flank.
He says Jota ‘skinned’ Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen and then delivered a perfect cross for Konate to connect with.
“Diogo Jota, the way that he skinned the Wolves forward down the right hand side, and then the quality of the cross”, James said post match on LFC TV.
“It was all about the quality of the cross.”
Jota has all too often had the flow of his Liverpool career interrupted by injuries and Slot will be hoping he can stay fit and fresh for the coming months.
Next up for Jota to get stuck into is a visit from Italians Bologna in the Champions League and the forward will hope he is once again starting.
