John Aldridge has warned Liverpool to not make the mistake of taking Bologna lightly and told them to learn from the mistakes of their past.
Liverpool have had an impressive start to the season under their new manager Arne Slot and after winning their opening game against AC Milan in the Champions League, they are set to face another Italian side in the form of Bologna.
The Reds will welcome Bologna, who are 13th in the Serie A table, to Anfield tonight and Slot’s side will be determined to secure another three points in the Champions League.
However, despite Bologna’s difficult start to the season, Aldridge has warned Liverpool not to take the Italian side for granted.
He reminded Liverpool that last season they suffered a 3-0 humiliating defeat at the hands of another Italian outfit, Atalanta, at Anfield and stressed that Wednesday’s game will not be an easy one.
“Champions League nights return to Anfield this week but while Bologna aren’t the most glamorous of opponents, Liverpool can’t take anything for granted”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“We saw that last season in the Europa League when Atalanta did a proper number on us at home and went on to win the competition.
“There surely won’t be any sense of this being an easy game.
“In fact, Bologna drew with Atalanta at the weekend despite having a player sent off.
Liverpool are undefeated in their last four games in all competitions and they will be keen to continue their winning momentum by defeating Bologna.
