Former Scotland star James McFadden thinks Celtic stars Auston Trusty and Liam Scales were outstanding against Atalanta in Italy on Wednesday night.

Celtic were keen to bounce back in the Champions League after their humiliating 7-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

On Wednesday, Celtic put in a solid defensive display against Atalanta in Italy to finish the game with a 0-0 scoreline and claim a precious league stage point.

In the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Brendan Rodgers put his faith in Trusty and Scales in defence and McFadden stated that both centre-backs were outstanding against Atalanta.

He pointed out that Trusty and Scales stayed switched on always in the Celtic six yard box and added that they protected Kasper Schmeichel so well that he had to make only a few saves.

“I thought Trusty and Scales were outstanding”, McFadden said on the Scottish Football Podcast.

“They defended their goal and mostly their defensive actions were in the six yard box.

“That means you need to be switched on and protecting your goalkeeper.

“Kasper Schmeichel had one really good save, it was straight at him.”

Celtic will next face RB Leipzig at home in their next fixture in the Champions League and Rodgers’ side will eye three points against the German outfit.
