Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has suggested that a deal to take his team-mate Loic Remy to Newcastle United is done.

The Magpies are known to have put in an offer for the 26-year-old, along with German champions Borussia Dortmund. QPR were keen on Remy, however the Frenchman turned down the chance to move to Loftus Road.

Newcastle have remained firm favourites to sign him, with Remy believed to prefer a move to St. James’ Park in order to play in the Premier League, while he is also comforted by the large francophone contingent at the club.

And now Barton has suggested a deal is done.

"Good luck to Loic in Newcastle", announced Barton via his Twitter feed.

"Don’t worry. I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him."

Barton himself turned out for Newcastle between 2007 and 2011, before joining QPR.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Marseille from the Loftus Road outfit, though he missed most of the first half of the season due to a 12-match ban which followed him from England.

Remy has scored just once for Marseille so far in Ligue 1 this season.
