Newcastle United manger Alan Pardew wants to make sure he has fresh faces to call upon when the Magpies visit Aston Villa in their next Premier League game on 29th January.

Pardew’s men went down to a 2-1 home defeat against Reading yesterday in a result which sees them uncomfortably close to the drop zone.

Newcastle are now just two points above the relegation places and have a series of tough fixtures on the horizon.

Aston Villa, who sit one place and one point below the Magpies, is now a crucial game.

"I would like to go to Villa stronger than I was today."
