Toulouse have bowed to the pressure and agreed for Moussa Sissoko to head to Newcastle United this month.

The Ligue 1 club have announced that the 23-year-old midfielder is heading to St. James’ Park imminently, after refusing to extend his contract at the French outfit.

"Moussa Sissoko will not complete his contract at Toulouse", said the French side via their official site.

"He has agreed a definitive transfer with Newcastle United Football Club, that takes effect today.

"He will therefore continue to develop in England, in the English Premier League."

Sissoko had threatened to sit out his contract until the end of the season before joining Newcastle and would have signed a pre-contractual agreement to that end.

The midfielder was wanted by Marseille, with who he held talks, but in the end decided he was more attracted to playing his football in England.

Sissoko adds to the growing number of French-speaking players at St. James’ Park and will hope to play his part in helping Alan Pardew’s men move up the Premier League standings during the current campaign.
