Newcastle United have completed the signing of Swiss defender Kevin Mbabu from Servette.

The 17-year-old had a successful trial spell at St. James’ Park and earned a move to the Magpies, which he has now completed.

And Mbabu, who has penned a contract with Alan Pardew’s men, is delighted to have become a Newcastle player.

"I am delighted to join Newcastle United", Mbabu told his new club’s official site.

"Today is a big day for me. I’ve always wanted to sign for a club in the Premier League and Newcastle is one of the biggest there is.

"I want to finish my development here with the reserves before one day training with the first team and hopefully breaking into the first team."

Mbabu is not expected to play a part in Newcastle’s battle against relegation this season, with the youngster having very much been bought with one eye on the future.
