Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has seemingly replied to Yohan Cabaye's comments regarding his desire to play in the Champions League.

Cabaye, who was the subject of a bid from Arsenal in the summer and has more recently been linked with Liverpool, had left the door open for a potential switch at the end of the current campaign, proclaiming his need for Champions League football and dangling a "we'll see" over his future.

But Pardew is desperate to keep hold of Cabaye and has sought to reassure the Frenchman that he can realise his Champions League dream at St. James' Park.

"If you want to ask me if I want to play in the Champions League I do, absolutely and Yohan wants to play in the Champions League", Pardew was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"But we want him to do that here, we are trying to build that but it is difficult and it is only players like Yohan Cabaye who will get us there.

"For him to have ambitions to play in the Champions League, I have absolutely no problem with that, none whatsoever and we have geared him up to have a fantastic World Cup so he is in great shape at the minute."

Cabaye landed at Newcastle in the summer of 2011, fresh off winning the Ligue 1 title with Lille and giving up the opportunity to play Champions League football in the process.
