Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi has said that the club need to spend big in the summer if they hope to bounce back next season.

The Magpies lost their fifth consecutive game when they went down 2-1 to Swansea City on Saturday, and having made no headline-grabbing signing in the last two transfer windows, the club are in a desperate need of new players to boost them.

Ameobi feels that Alan Pardew has had limited resources to juggle and hit out at the club’s board for their decisions, calling for major additions to the squad before the next season begins.

“That is something the club have to put right for next season. We need quality players and we need a quality squad as well”, the Nigerian international was quoted as saying by ITV.

“This has all been brought out to a lot of people but we, as players, knew that. I think the fans are getting to see that now.

“We have limited resources at the moment and when we lose one or two key players it hurts the team badly”, the 32-year-old added.

“That is what the manager has had to put up with, unfortunately.”

With just three more games to go this league season, Newcastle still have to face Arsenal and Liverpool besides Cardiff City over the coming weeks, as they look to end the season on a brighter note.
