Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that his team had multiple chances to score several goals against West Ham United, but insists that he is happy with the outcome of their match.

The Blues went to the Boleyn Ground on the back of their League Cup triumph at Wembley on Sunday and came away with a 1-0 win over Sam Allardyce’s side. The result saw Mourinho’s men maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table.




A 22nd minute goal from Eden Hazard off a Ramires assist was sufficient for the Blues to get all three points against their fellow Londoners.

Mourinho feels that his team’s wastefulness in front of the Hammers’ goal could have cost the Blues dearly as a team of West Ham’s quality remain dangerous for the entirety of the 90 minutes.
 


“We had chances to kill the game and we were expecting good situations to attack the space and score more goals, but we didn’t and when you don’t do that against West Ham you are in permanent danger”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by the club site.

The Portuguese was effusive in praise of his players and added that in a high stakes game like yesterday's, quality is not on top of his priorities as long as his team grab all three points.

After riling against match officials throughout the season for several perceived injustices, Mourinho commended referee Andre Marriner for his handling of their match.

“It doesn’t matter the quality of the game when the emotion and the tempo is so high, and the players were so fantastic in their commitment and positive aggression, and the referee was good at letting the game follow the normal direction.

“In every title race you have different matches to play.

“There are matches when you need your quality to win, others when you need luck and others when you have to adapt to the opponent and we had to do that with [John] Terry, [Gary] Cahill and [Kurt] Zouma for the direct football, and [Thibaut] Courtois amazing in everything.”
