Celtic captain Scott Brown has revealed that winning the Scottish Premiership is the first priority for his side, but insisted that doing well in the Champions League is also vital.

Last season, the Hoops sealed their fourth successive league title and this year they will attempt a historic fifth consecutive title and their 47th overall.

“Every game you have to treat the same”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“The league is always the priority and we have to continue that run of form that we’ve been on.”

Brown added that doing well in the Champions League is also important for the Bhoys and he wants the team to progress to the group stage of the elite European competition next term.

“But the UEFA Champions League is huge for this club and that’s where this club should be and that’s where we’re aiming to be this season.

“When we play in the UEFA Champions League, home or away we always give it a right good go. We’ve done well in the past and hopefully we can do the same this season."

Celtic have been drawn to play Icelandic side Stjarnan in their second qualifying round of the Champions League – the first leg of which is due to be played at Celtic Park in mid-July.

And Brown is aware of the challenge posed by Urvalsdeild champions Stjarnan, but is confident of his team coming put triumphs from the encounter.

“The first UEFA Champions League qualifier is always hard, because they are five or six weeks ahead in their season but hopefully our quality will shine through.”
