Former Tottenham Hotspur and England boss Glenn Hoddle has indicated that the absence of Jose Mourinho from the Britannia Stadium will have an adverse effect on his Chelsea players.

The Chelsea manager will not be allowed to enter Stoke City’s home ground because he is serving a one-match stadium ban, handed out by the FA for his behaviour towards the referee at West Ham last month.

The Blues are already under tremendous pressure because of their dire run of form and Hoddle feels the absence of Mourinho from the touchline as well as the stadium, could have an adverse effect on the Chelsea players.

The former Tottenham boss admits while the support staff are capable, a manager always wants to be around the players before a match because there are little things only he can pick up.

Hoddle said on BT Sport’s, Fletch & Sav show: “The manager needs to be in there.

“If you have done all your planning in the week, done your tactics, picked your team and you set them up.

“But it is little things that you pick up an hour before the game. You have to rely on your staff, but you want to be in there.”

Mourinho will be hoping that in his absence his players manage to produce a performance to win all three points at Stoke.
