Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink is pleased that Eden Hazard got 90 minutes under his belt in yesterday's 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa put the home side ahead with only five minutes on the clock, before Pedro Rodriguez doubled Chelsea's advantage in the ninth minute.

Willian made it 3-0 in the 17th minute, killing off any hopes Newcastle had of working their way back into the game.

Pedro put Chelsea 4-0 up in the 59th minute, while Bertrand Traore netted Chelsea's fifth in the final ten minutes, before Andros Townsend scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Hazard clocked up the full 90 minutes, something Hiddink was pleased to see ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Hiddink said via his club's site: "I’m happy Eden played 90 minutes, that’s why we brought him to a higher level step by step, I think that will benefit him a lot.

"Let’s see how he can perform on Tuesday", the Dutchman added.

And when it comes to facing PSG, Hiddink expects a much tougher test for his side than that provided by Steve McClaren's struggling Magpies.

"The game against PSG will be much more difficult, they are unbeaten since August but this game has given us confidence."
